Fields Medal

E finalmente o Artur Avila ganhou a medalha Fields. Fantástico ! Um dos maiores feitos da ciência brasileira, e mais notável ainda pelo fato de ser em ciência pura. Um reconhecimento também ao IMPA, a mais bem sucedida instituição de pesquisa no Brasil.

Mas é também especialmente notável que o probabilista Martin Hairer também tenha sido premiado. Como ele é um visitante frequente no Imecc-Unicamp, já tive a sorte de ver uma apresentação dele. Da wikipedia:

Professor Martin Hairer is one of the world's foremost leaders in the field of stochastic partial differential equations in particular, and in stochastic analysis and stochastic dynamics in general. By bringing new ideas to the subject he made fundamental advances in many important directions such as the study of variants of Hormander's theorem, systematisation of the construction of Lyapunov functions for stochastic systems, development of a general theory of ergodicity for non-Markovian systems, multiscale analysis techniques, theory of homogenisation, theory of path sampling and, most recently, theory of rough paths and the newly introduced theory of regularity structures.

Suas contribuições á análise estocástica são impressionantes. Meu amigo e co-autor Alberto Ohashi também deve estar especialmente feliz, já que é co-autor em um importante trabalho com o Martin Hairer. Também é especialmente notável que esta premiação tenha acontecido no mesmo momento que está ocorrendo no Imecc a International Conference on Stochastic Analysis and Related Topics (que eu vou assistir agora nessa quinta feira).  Que notícia !
